The Pause
by Christopher Honey
When Father Nick lifts high the bread and brings it
Above his head, he pauses; bells no longer
Ring and the recitation’s done. He looks
At it expectantly, as if to see
The Christ entering this host. I see him caught
In the interstices of tick and tock,
Of sacrament and not.
