St. Michael, rooster

By Megan Willome

An angel can get so much more done
in domesticated form, perched
between sky and snake while we pour
more coffee, debate the surest way
to heal what ails us.
All night we argue
until, unseen, he signals morning
sharpens his beak-sword
on the barnyard wall.

Megan Willome is the author, most recently, of a poetry collection titled Love & other Mysteries. Her work has also appeared at Every Day Poems, Solum Journal, The Way Back to Ourselves, and The Windhover. Her day is incomplete without poetry, tea, and a walk in the dark.
